Rules of Engagement: Phase III • Economic Impact of Data Management & Sharing in the Healthcare Supply Chain

Industry Motivation
Compliance with state and federal regulations currently is the main driver for data sharing across the healthcare supply chain. However, there are also significant economic benefits for all supply chain partners who pursue data sharing including enhanced demand forecasting and inventory replenishment.

Unexplored Incentives
A more efficient and transparent supply chain will improve costs, reduce inventory and product losses, shorten time to market and increase services levels. All these benefits can be realized while further enhancing patient safety and supply chain security.

Objectives
Phase III of the Data Management/Data Sharing initiative will examine the economic implications of taking a broader approach to data sharing, as defined in Rules of Engagement: Phase II • The Blueprint for Data Management & Sharing.

The study will explore several questions about the impact of data sharing on the economics of the industry:

  • How will the economics change as industry partners move to adopt the three levels of data sharing outlined in the Phase II) The Blueprint for Data Management/Data Sharing in the Healthcare Supply Chain?
  • What are the economic benefits and challenges for trading partners in each of the three phases of data sharing?
  • What is the overall return on investment (ROI) for trading partner at each level of data sharing?
  • What can the industry do to create greater incentives and speed the adoption of data sharing in the healthcare supply chain?
