Charles Forsaith, Purdue Pharma, will provide a “state of the union” on security in the industry. Hear where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re headed. The Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research will then offer a high level overview of its 2009 In-Transit Study, as well as provide some insights on deterrent tactics that are presented more fully in HDMA’s preventing in-transit theft guidelines.

Don deKieffer, a lawyer, keen observer and individual who has written several books on the topic of diversion in the pharmaceutical supply chain, will present his take on diversion - how to prevent it, recognize it and what to do about. His comments will highlight the importance of communication, paying attention to packaging, and what to look for when repackaging. Don is poised to share case studies where diversion occurred so we may learn how the involved companies were compromised, and what preventative measures could have been taken. Hear methods to not only protect your product, but also protect the patient.

In January 2010 a long-awaited initiative to help theft victims quickly share cargo theft data with law enforcement in a secure and controlled manner was launched. This session will describe how information sharing used to fight retail crime, construction equipment theft, art theft and insurance fraud led to the development of CargoNet, and how this unique collaboration between law enforcement, shippers, carriers and their insurers helped mold the design of CargoNet. Attendees will learn how the system’s security features enable data sharing on a ‘need to know’ basis to protect brand owners and some of the analytical features of the system that support law enforcement investigations and theft prevention.
