Specialty Trends and REMS Presentation by the Center’s EVP & COO

Karen Ribler, EVP & COO of the Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research spoke at the 30th Annual Schwartz Symposium, sponsored by Long Island University’s School of Pharmacy on Sunday, June 13th. Her talk provided an overview of trends in the specialty pharmaceuticals segment highlighting insights found in the Center’s Specialty Pharmaceuticals: Facts, Figures and Trends publication. Ribler also detailed an ongoing project on Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) and development of regulations around REMS products.

The Board of Directors met on Tuesday, May 18th at the Sofitel in Washington, DC to discuss 2011 projects and the progress of 2010 goals.

 

Highlights From the Center’s Successful Supply Chain Security Seminar

Held in Alexandria, Virginia on May 10-11th, more than 50 supply chain professionals—including distributors, manufacturers, service providers, security and regulatory experts — gathered for the Center’s Supply Chain Security seminar.

Seminar attendees participate in a role-playing exercise centered on a simulated cargo theft.

Hanagan Honored with Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement

On October 15, 2009, the Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research and Genentech presented the annual Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement. This lifetime achieve award is the healthcare distribution industry’s highest recognition, honoring exceptional character, accomplishments and leadership in HDMA, the industry and the community.  This year, the Center and Genentech honored Nancy Hanagan, HDMA’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, for her three decades of service for the industry and at the Association. On August 18, the Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research hosted the first annual Regional Distributor Benchmarking Forum at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore. The fundraiser was attended by HDMA regional distributor members, including Smith Drug Company; Burlington Drug Company, Inc.; R&S Northwest, LLC; Dik Drug Co.; and others. Read more

White Paper on IBM’s support for the Center’s Blueprint for Data Management & Data Sharing

On June 8, 2009, The Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research released Data Sharing in the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain: A Series of Case Studies.

This white paper provides case studies with Pfizer, McKesson, Wal-Mart and IBM that demonstrate the value of individual serialization in achieving greater efficiency, patient safety and security across the entire supply chain. It is part of an ongoing series of topical white papers.

Specialty Pharmaceuticals Luncheon and Interactive Roundtable Topic Discussion

On Monday, June 8, Jennifer Dolan, Principal of Dolan & Associates presented an interactive roundtable discussion on specialty pharmaceuticals at HDMA’s 2009 Business Partners Exchange at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona.   The roundtable provided an opportunity to gain insight into this dynamic topic and discuss some preliminary findings from the Center’s new benchmarking publication, Specialty Pharmaceuticals: Facts, Figures and Trends.  The publication will available later this summer.

Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research Hosts CEO Roundtable Fundraiser

In April 2009, the Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research hosted its first annual CEO Roundtable Fundraiser at the St. Regis New York.  More than 120 top industry leaders from across the healthcare supply chain attended the reception/ dinner. Our honored guest John H. Hammergren, Chairman, President and CEO, McKesson Corporation, and John M. Gray, President and CEO of HDMA, provided an interactive dialogue about the future of healthcare including the potential impacts of comprehensive healthcare reforms currently in progress, the industry’s role in shaping the future and what is missing from the present national discussion.

Initial funding for the event was provided by Genentech, Inc.

Rob Zachow, Director of Customer & Trade Relations at Bracco Diagnostics, Inc., lead a well-received presentation on Rules of Engagement: Phase II • The Blueprint for Data Management & Sharing.  Phase II is part of a Center research study to better understand supply chain data sharing in the healthcare industry.

The Center Hosts the Industry Benchmarking Committee Meeting

The Industry Benchmarking Committee Fall meeting was held at the Center’s headquarters to review and finalize improvements to the annual survey program.  The Committee oversees the Center’s annual Factbook benchmarking surveys to ensure that the changing nature of the healthcare supply chain is reflected in the metrics of the industry reports. The Committee has taken an active role in re-focusing the survey questionnaires in order to reflect the current trends in healthcare distribution.
